NFL wild card picks

Well, tough game for UVA. As good as we played in the first half on offense, we played that much worse in the second half. Nineteen second-half points just won't get it done against the Tar Heels. Certainly there were some bright spots, and the effort was there, but just disappointing to be up 11 in the second half and still lose. Might post more on the game later.

Now, on to NFL picks for the weekend.

Today
4:30
Saints at Seahawks
I think the Seahawks will give a valiant effort, but Drew Brees and the Saints will be on their game, searching for another Super Bowl win. Saints win, 24-13. Keep an eye on the weather though. Supposed to be in the low 40s with rain and wind. Could play a part.

8:00
Jets at Colts
I think this has the potential to be a special game. The AFC championship between these two squads was pretty good last year. Rex Ryan talks a big game, but the Colts are on a bit of a roll. I'll go with Indy until the Jets prove to me they have what it takes to stop Manning. 30-24 Colts.

Sunday
1:00
Ravens at Chiefs
The Ravens are playoff road warriors. They have played like six consecutive road playoff games. Most notably, they beat New England last year in Foxborough. It wasn't even close. Two years ago, they played Pittsburgh tough on the road in the AFC title game but the Steelers won that and went on to win the Super Bowl over the Cardinals. The Chiefs are sputtering into the playoffs, having just lost their first home game of the year, 31-10, to the Raiders in Week 17. Kansas City is a good story but I have to go with Baltimore here. Ravens, 27-17.

4:15
Packers at Eagles
The Eagles, once flying high, are sputtering into the playoffs as well. They lost to the Vikings and Cowboys, both sub-.500 opponents, to close the regular season. Michael Vick might not be at 100 percent. The Packers fought their way into the playoffs, crushing the Giants two weeks ago and then edging the Bears, 10-3, last week. Green Bay defeated Philly 27-20 in Week 1, with Kevin Kolb starting for the Eagles. I think Vick will do just enough and Philly slips by and into the divisional round, 34-31.
