UVa's first Final Four game in 35 years tips off in about 24 hours, and it feels like a long time coming for a lot of Wahoos. My season-ending UVa basketball evaluations

What a whirlwind March and first part of April it was. Looking back, it seems like the NCAA tournament went on for so long. And it really did. It lasts about two and a half weeks -- three weeks plus one day if you count Selection Sunday -- and with Virginia getting to the title game, it felt like a marathon for the players and coaches, and I'm sure a lot of fans had the same experience. I know I did. Exhausted during games and after them. Hopeful and fearful (though the players will say they never feared anything, and they may be telling the truth). Shocked perhaps at times. I was beside myself after the Purdue game, dancing, jumping, and flopping around in jubilation, and then stunned and oddly silenced and lacking words after the Auburn victory. Relieved after close wins. Tired but joyful after the final victory. I remember a reporter asking Ty Jerome how it felt to get to the Sweet 16 since he had never been, and the junior responded by acknowledging the milestone for hims...

College football picks for the weekend

In other action, the Virginia men's basketball team takes on La Salle in Brooklyn in the Barclays Center Classic at 9:30 p.m. The game is televised on NBC Sports Network. The Cavaliers are 5-0 after beating George Washington, 59-42, last Friday and then Tennessee State, 79-36, on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will then take on Vanderbilt or Rutgers in the Classic on Saturday. Season: 69-35; last week: 6-2 Friday Arkansas at No. 17 Missouri, 2:30 p.m. CBS The Razorbacks have six wins and are eligible for a bowl for the first time under coach Bret Beliema. The significance of this game is all on Missouri. If the Tigers win, they capture the SEC East and will face Alabama or Mississippi State in the SEC championship game. If they lose, Georgia wins the East. I think Mizzou has the motivation necessary to get the job done at home, but it won't be easy. State Last year: 7-6 (3-5 ACC), beat Vanderbilt 41-17 in Independence Bowl Best win: at North Carolina, 28-21 Worst loss: 33-30 at East Carolina Coach: Dave Doren (fifth year, 25-26) Starters returning: 18 (8 offense, 8 defense, 2 specialists) Offensive player to watch: Jaylen Samuels. I did not put a position next to him because the Wolfpack's roster says "H." Not sure what that means. But Samuel is very versatile and has played a variety of positions in his career.
