Incredible final day of MLB regular season; Stewart's smokin'

MLB
No, the Braves did not make the playoffs. They came up short. No offense did them in against the Philles. They held a 3-1 lead on the Phillies but Philly ended up tying te game and winning it in the 13th inning. Because the Cardinals shut out the Astros, the Braves had to win to force a one-game playoff to determine the NL wild card.
The amazing thing though is what happened in the AL wild card chase. The Red Sox held a slim, 3-2 lead in the 7th inning over the Orioles when the game was delayed for rain. The Rays were down 7-0 to the Yankees. If the Sox were to hold on, the Rays would have to win to force a one-game playoff to determine the AL wild card. Well, inexplicably, within a span of three minutes, the Orioles defeated the Red Sox in the ninth inning and the Rays scored six runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to top the Yankees. So, the Rays are in and the Sox are out. They started September nine games behind the Sox in the wild card race and the Cardinals started the month 8.5 games behind the Braves.
So, the first-round playoff matchups are: AL -- Rays at Rangers (series starts Friday), Tigers at Yankees (Friday), and, NL -- Diamondbacks at Brewers (Saturday), Cardinals at Phillies (Saturday).

STEWART WINS AGAIN
After a solid but not-up-to-his-standards regular season, Tony Stewart has caught fire and won the first two races of the Sprint Cup Chase. This past weekend at New Hampshire, Stewart won after Clint Bowyer ran out of gas on the final lap. The crazy thing is Stewart was leading this exact race last year (it was actually the first race of the Chase) when HE ran out of gas on the final lap and BOWYER passed him. Wild. Stewart no leads Kevin Harvick by seven points in the Chase. The third race of the postseason is Sunday at Dover.
