Miami at Maryland pick (8 p.m. ESPN)

I went 8-4 picking Saturday's games. The ACC mostly held serve with FCS schools, although N.C. State struggled a bit with Liberty and Duke was upended by Richmond.

Miami is without starting quarterback Jacory Harris but I actually think backup Stephen Morris is better. After UVa knocked Jacory Harris out of last year's matchup between the two teams, Morris, a then-true freshman, nearly brought the Hurricanes all the way back from a 24-0 deficit. Miami is dealing with lots of turmoil right now and some of that is manifested in suspensions of different players. I think new coach Al Golden will mold Miami into a good team -- better than the team was under Randy Shannon eventually -- but it will be tough in these opening games and until the NCAA violations situation settles down. With this game being at Maryland and the Terps returning one of, if not the ACC's top QB in sophomore Danny O'Brien, I think the Terps will win tonight. I look this to be the first of many wins for new Maryland coach Randy Edsall.
Maryland 31, Miami 24
