List update: The top 10 UVa football games I have attended

A little over a week ago, I revisited a list I created in 2009 detailing the top 10 UVa football games I had attended with a promise to update that list now that we are (hopefully) heading toward the 2020 season. In that Cavalier Daily column, I compiled my record in all the games I had went to up to that point, which included three home games each in 1999 and 2000, every home game except two from 2001-2008, two road games in 2007, and the 2002 Continental Tire Bowl. On the surface, it sounds like Diakite didn't receive a favorable outlook during his NBA draft declaration process, but he's ready to make the jump to the pros and prove scouts and talent evaluators wrong and remain in the draft. However, he could just be ready to come back to UVa and prove them wrong in that way, too, by having a really good senior season. Or he could actually mean it is time for the team to prove doubters wrong again. Since the Big Three are leaving, no one thinks UVa can make a serious run next season. Notice he didn't say time for "me" to prove them wrong. Whatever the case, he has until May 29 to withdraw from the draft and say he's coming back to Charlottesville. The NFL season came to an end Sunday at the Super Bowl with a sad Nationwide commercial, Katy Perry flying around on what looked like "The More You Know" star, dancing sharks, somewhat sad-looking beach balls, and oh, a football game. The game itself was one of the best Super Bowls I've probably watched with the Patriots winning, 28-24, thanks in part because of a controversial playcall by the Seahawks at the end of the game where they decided to pass the ball with 26 seconds left on second down from the 1 with a timeout instead of run the ball at least once with Marshawn Lynch. Russell Wilson threw a slant into traffic to Ricardo Lockette and the Patriots' Malcolm Butler broke in front of the ball and made a terrific game-clinching interception. Of course, Dallas' season ended more than three weeks ago in the divisional playoff round game against the Packers. Green Bay won a very good game, 26-21. As promised, here is a full slate of weekend football picks (NFL included this time). Last week's record: 5-0. Overall: 5-2. COLLEGE Noon No. 12 Arkansas at Georgia Pig Suey!! Arkansas' offense is rolling on all cylinders. Even though the Razorbacks haven't been tested yet, I think they'll overcome the somewhat mediocre Dawgs in Athens. 27-21 Massachusetts at No. 20 Michigan I just couldn't resist. Visions of Appy State blocking a last-second Wolverine field goal in 2007 are dancing through my head. After early scare, UVa downs G-W, now gets Oklahoma team that has been shaky all season but was great vs. Ole Miss

No. 1 Virginia (30-3) vs. No. 9 Oklahoma (20-13), Columbia, S.C., about 7:45 p.m., truTV It took a while, and UVa fans were feeling that dread all over again, but Virginia woke up and rallied from 14 down in the first half to cruise to a 71-56 victory over Gardner-Webb on Friday in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Once the Cavaliers got over the pressure of the moment, and the potential history opposing fans wanted them to make again, they showed they were the more talented team with better coaching and edges all over the court. It was all about attitude to me, and once the Wahoos realized who they are and what they can really do, the game was over.
