Final: UNC 54, UVa 51

-Listening to postgame news conference. Tony Bennett a class act. Declined to comment on the foul calls but did say it was hard for Mike Scott to get in a rhythm because his game kept getting interrupted by having to sit on the bench. He said he was happier with Virginia's rebounding this game than last game against UNC, but still needs work.
-Joe Harris named player of the game. Great effort by him. Playing hurt and shot pretty well and was solid defensively. Had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. He also declined to comment on the refereeing after the game.
-Jontel Evans led the Cavs with 13 points. His penetration and layups helped keep the Cavs in the game. And his defense on UNC's Kendall Marshall was terrific. He held him to just one point and six assists.
-Malcolm Brogdon toughed out 25 minutes on a bad foot and contributed four points for the Hoos.
-UNC shot 18 for 23 from the line (78.3 percent). UVa just 3 of 6 (50 percent). Not going to beat many top-10 team when you don't get to the line. Part of that is probably the refs (17 fouls called on the Cavs to 11 on the Heels) but part of that is also that UVa needs to go inside more and be a little more aggressive. Virginia got a little too 3-pointer happy in this one -- shot 23 of them.
-I wasn't upset with Mike Scott's 3-pointer with 45 seconds left. He doesn't shoot many 3s, but he can definitely make that. Problem is he couldn't get in a rhythm all game because he got whistled for four fouls and spent lots of time on the bench. He played just 22 minutes.
-Sammy got about as good a look as possible there at the end to tie it. That one would've fell in the first half but he lost his touch in the 2nd half.
-Zeller got it done for the Heels. He had 20 points and six rebounds. Don't mind the way he plays at all. Clean player. John Henson, however, is not going to be a big-time player at the next level because he acts too much on the defensive end and is soft. Every time Scott breathed on him, he was flopping and drawing fouls.
-The refereeing will also not help UNC in the NCAA tournament because the calls will be more balanced there. The ACC not doing UNC any favors with the way they call the Heels' games.
-Virginia's got to shake this off. Thursday another ranked opponent comes to Charlottesville -- Florida State. I think UVa still needs one, maybe two wins to lock itself into the NCAA tournament. A victory today might have done it, though, since UNC is so highly ranked. Time to focus on the Seminoles now.
