SWEET 16 PICKS
I went 2-2 on Thursday's picks.
Baylor 66, Xavier 63: Give me the Bears in this one. I was not particularly high on Baylor going into the tournament, but I like the matchups they've had so far.
North Carolina 84, Ohio 71: The Tar Heels are likely to be without starting point guard Kendall Marshall, but I don't see it mattering too much against the Bobcats, who I expect to keep it close early, but will eventually be overmatched as the game wears on.
Kentucky 77, Indiana 70: Kentucky is playing as well as anyone in the tournament right now, maybe the best. The Hoosiers needed every minute they could get to beat VCU in their last game. I think the Wildcats get a measure of revenge on IU, which beat them for their only regular-season loss of the season way back in December.
Kansas 80, N.C. State 76, OT: Kansas was shaky in its win over Purdue last game while the Wolfpack have won decently comfortably in both of their games vs. higher-seeded teams. N.C. State is hitting its stride, while the Jayhawks have flopped lately in the tourney (VCU pounded the Jayhawks last year to get to the Final Four). I hope this one goes to overtime and ends up being one of the classics of the tourney -- there haven't been many great games yet. I think KU will learn from its debacle last season against the Rams and rally the troops and pull one out here after being down at halftime.

VIRGINIA WOMEN
The Virginia women easily defeated Appalachian State 74-58 on Thursday at JPJ and move on to the quarterfinals where the Cavaliers will face either South Florida or James Madison. Those teams play tonight in Harrisonburg. Virginia is now 25-10 on the season. It is the first time the Hoos have reached the 25-win mark since the 1999-00 campaign.
