I went 6-3 in college picks, happily losing badly in the Virginia game as the Cavaliers easily played their finest game of the season in a 33-6 blowout win over N.C. State on the road. I'll surely discuss that more next week. Last week, I went 6-1 in NFL picks and am now 31-16 on the year.
Dolphins at Colts, 1 p.m. CBS
Who would have guessed before the season this could be a matchup of potential playoff teams? Not me. But both Miami and Indianapolis are both 4-3 and in the hunt in the mediocre AFC. I think the Dolphins are playing a little better right now than the Colts and it will be a close game, but like the Dolphins, even though they could be without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The latest report, however, says Tannheill will play. Matt Moore is viable backup, though, if Miami has to go in that direction.
Dolphins 20, Colts 17
Panthers at Redskins, 1 p.m. FOX
The Redskins defense could be just what Cam Newton and Carolina's offense needs to get back on track. The Panthers are due a victory. And it isn't like they've been getting blown out -- their last four losses, they've lost each by five points are less and nearly won in Chicago last week but lost on a last-second field goal 23-22. Should be a fun shootout between the last two Heisman Trophy winners -- Newton and RGIII.
Panthers 28, Redskins 27
Steelers at Giants, 4:25 p.m. CBS
The Steelers are starting to play better. Meanwhile, the Giants have rather quietly won four in a row. Their last two wins, however, have been closely contested battles against division rivals Washington and Dallas. Pittsburgh has won two in a row, over Cincinnati and Washington. Ben Roethlisberger should fare well against the Giants pass defense, which gave Tony Romo a record day last week despite also picking him off four times.
Giants 30, Steelers 28
Cowboys at Falcons, 8:20 p.m. NBC
Dallas was literally inches away from sweeping the season series with the Giants last week as Dez Bryant made a catch in the back of the end zone near the end of the game but could not get all his fingers in bounds. I would not be surprised to see the Cowboys play the Falcons very tough. This game has the feel of the opener against the Giants. Many people think the Cowboys have no shot and it is on the road. But Dallas needs a victory badly at 3-4 and Atlanta could be ripe for an upset. Still, I think it will be just that -- the Cowboys will play the Falcons tough, but ultimately fall.
Falcons 23, Cowboys 20
Eagles at Saints, 8:30 p.m. Monday night ESPN
The Eagles called a players-only meeting this week after getting handled easily 30-17 by the Falcons last week. Michael Vick has been put on notice by Andy Reid -- he has to play better. And he should be able to against a Saints defense on pace to give up the most yards all-time or something crazy like that. The Saints gave a poor performance last Sunday in a 34-14 drubbing at the hands of the Broncos. They will surely bounce back and have a better offensive game against a beleaguered Philly 'D' that fired its coordinator two weeks ago. Should be a track meet on the Superdome's artificial turf between two teams who badly need wins. The Eagles are 3-4 and the Saints are 3-4.
Saints 34, Eagles 31
