Sources: Tom O'Brien to UVa

A coaching website is saying Tom O'Brien, who was fired as head football coach at N.C. State, is joining the UVa staff as an assistant. Possibly as associate head coach and tight ends or offensive line coach, depending on if Scott Wachenheim is still coaching the big guys up front.

O'Brien went 40-35 from 2007-12 as the Wolfpack's head coach. Before that, he turned Boston College into a contender in the Big East and ACC from 1997 to 2006. He went 75-45 as the Eagles head coach. O'Brien was the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Virginia under former coach George Welsh from 1982 to 1996 before his time at BC.
