Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech, 7:30 p.m. ESPN
Virginia Tech has escaped the past two weeks with close wins over Conference USA foes East Carolina (15-10 on the road) and Marshall (29-21 in 3OT in Blacksburg). With such a quick
turnaround, this game favors the Yellow Jackets and their offense. The Hokies' defense has played well this season, but with only four days to prepare for Georgia Tech's unique offense, the Jackets should be able to score a few touchdowns on the Hokies. The game will come down to the Jackets' revamped defense, which has played pretty solidly thus far this season, and the Hokies' offense, which has struggled.
Both teams' defenses stepped up in the second half of their games last Saturday. Georgia Tech was down, 20-14, to UNC in Atlanta at halftime, and won 28-20. The Hokies were down 21-14 to the Thundering Herd at the half. Both defenses allowed zero points in the second half (and for VT, three overtimes as well). With the Hokies' weak offense, and a hot Hokies' defense, I think this game will be a little lower scoring than some might think. Eventually though, the Yellow Jackets will pull away some time in the second half as they wear down Virginia Tech's 'D.'
