In what is looking like a lost year for UVa, many people are still picking the Cavaliers to win this game, despite being only 1-4 compared to Syracuse's record of 3-2. Virginia has played a much more challenging schedule than Syracuse. UVa was 12 seconds away from beating then-No. 9 Notre Dame, which has just one loss. The 'Hoos also played UCLA, Boise State, and Pittsburgh, all teams that had no more than one loss when UVa played them and still only have a combined five losses. The Orange played LSU fairly tough at home, but its other games came against Rhode Island (win), Wake Forest (win), Central Michigan (win, OT), and South Florida (loss). Syracuse has secondary issues Virginia is going to try to exploit. QB Matt Johns, though, has been inconsistent the past few games after a solid start to the season. Syracuse mixes up an option running attack with a passing game with true freshman QB Eric Dungey. UVa, after a bad first quarter on defense last week at Pitt, showed improvements after that in some of its best defensive work of the season. If the players are still playing hard and want to win for Mike London, they can pull out this victory, which is the most winnable game left on the schedule. It's tough imagining a scenario where the Cavs finish this season 1-11. I think a win or two has to crop up somewhere, and this is a likely candidate.
