Austin Nichols, the transfer big man from Memphis, was kicked off the UVa squad Friday, coach Tony Bennett said.
Nichols, a redshirt junior, had already missed two preseason scrimmages and the opener last Friday at North Carolina Greensboro because of a violation of team rules. He was expected to be a big part of
the team this year and maybe the Cavaliers' leading scorer. He had 11 points and three rebounds Tuesday in the home opener against St. Francis (N.Y.).
Nichols, 6-foot-9 and 234 pounds, averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks two seasons ago in his second year at Memphis. He sat out last season at Virginia under NCAA transfer rules.
I'll try to provide more commentary later and will also do a revised game-by-game schedule prediction.
