First picks of a full college weekend

College GameDay has set up in Atlanta, meaning the first official college football Saturday is here, and I'm excited. There have already been some games played dating to last Saturday, but this is the first full weekend. There were games Thursday and they go through Monday. Probably just going to do picks only, and not as much writing this year. But we will see how these posts evolve. I usually end up getting more long-winded than originally intended.

National game of the week
No. 3 Florida State vs. No. 1 Alabama in Atlanta, 8 p.m. Saturday ABC
At QB, Jalen Hurt is back for 'Bama and Deondre Francois returns for FSU. Expectations are very high for both teams, with the Tide coming off the stinging loss in the national title game to Clemson while Florida State won an exciting Orange Bowl over Michigan. This should be a classic and a great way to kick off the season.
Alabama 31, Florida State 24

William & Mary at Virginia, 3:30 p.m. Saturday ESPN3.com
William & Mary is not Richmond from a year ago. Those Spiders came in highly ranked in FCS and as one of the favorites in the CAA. The Tribe is coming off a 5-6 season and is picked seventh in the CAA this season. W&M had a long QB battle and settled on fourth-year senior Tommy McKee, who is also the punter. You would hope UVa's defense could do well against the Tribe's offense. Clearly, UVa was not ready for the opener last season, and it seems like the UVa coaches learned their lesson, but we will see. I don't expect this to a be a romp for the Wahoos and would be pleasantly surprised if it is. Virginia's offense has enough returning and has had a year in the new system to get it it done, and the defense has the capability, probably to overwhelm W&M at times.
