National game of the week

J.T. Barrett and Ohio State thumped Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma last year in Norman, so the Sooners are out for revenge. But I don't think they will get it.

Indiana at Virginia, 3:30 p.m. ESPNU
Virginia was solid in its defeat of William & Mary and didn't embarrass itself like it did last year against in-state FCS foe Richmond. Still, the Cavaliers didn't dominate and now they face a step up in competition to Big Ten team Indiana. Certainly, the Hoosiers are no football power, but they have had more recent success than Virginia, going to two bowl games in a row and winning six games each of the past two seasons. Amid allegations of mistreatment of injured players, however, coach Kevin Wilson resigned before Indiana's bowl game this past season. The new coach is Tom Allen, who was
the defensive coordinator. The Hoosiers got a lot of attention for their performance against Ohio State last Thursday. They actually led the Buckeyes, 14-13, at halftime, but OSU took control in the second half and won, 49-21. Virginia's players this week said they took note of the game. I don't think Indiana will be taken lightly. The Hoosiers have a strong passing game led by QB Richard Lagow and WR Simmie Cobbs Jr., who had 11 catches for 149 yards and one TD against OSU. Virginia lost senior cornerback Tim Harris for the season to a broken wrist in the W&M game, a blow for the secondary and for Harris, who will lose another year to injury. At this point, I think Indiana is just ahead of Virginia as a program and that will show a little bit. UVa is capable of winning, and if it does to get to 2-0, fans will begin to excited, and rightly so with another winnable game coming up next week with Connecticut coming to Charlottesville. But I like the Hoosiers in a fairly close game throughout. A late field goal seals the win for IU.
