Wahoo Wanderings

Baseball: The Cavaliers' season came to a disappointing end in the ACC tournament. UVa lost, 18-12 -- yes, 18-12 -- in its regular-season finale to Wake Forest. The 'Hoos were placed in a pool with Florida State and N.C. State at the tournament in Durham. Virginia needed to win the ACC championship to get to the NCAA tournament, but that dream was dashed quickly in this past Tuesday's game against Florida State, a 3-2 loss in 11 innings to the Seminoles. UVa suffered 10 one-run losses this season. The Wahoos finished their season on a high note, at least, defeating the Wolfpack, 4-2, on Thursday.

Virginia's record in 2018 was 29-25, easily the fewest number of wins under coach Brian O'Connor in his 15 years leading the program (38 was the previous low set in 2016). He made the NCAA tournament in all of his first 14 seasons with the program, seeing that streak come to an end this year. And after winning the College World Series in 2015, and also getting to the CWS finals in 2014, the Cavaliers have now failed to make a super regional in three straight seasons. It's a disappointing stretch for a program that broke through for its first CWS berth in 2009 after five straight years of losing in regional play. Hopefully, O'Connor and his staff can get the Cavaliers back on track in 2019.

Women's golf: The Cavaliers finished 22nd out of 24 teams at the NCAA championship held at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

Rowing: Virginia ended up fifth Saturday, the last day of competition, at the NCAA championships held in Sarasota, Fla.
