There are a couple ACC games before Saturday that I'll pick, one including the Hokies, and a few other games I'll throw on for good measure. Here's a look at how I did last week:
7-2
Nailed: North Carolina-Syracuse (guess was Syracuse 33-27, final was 40-37 in two overtimes; after regulation, it was 27-all)
Whiffed: Oregon-Washington State (guess was Oregon 34-31, final was Washington State 34-20; Virginia-Duke (guess was Duke 23-20; final was Virginia 28-14)
Season: 63-31
Thursday
Baylor (4-3) at No. 13 West Virginia (5-1), 7 p.m. FS1
West Virginia 38, Baylor 30
No. 25 Appalachian State (5-1) at Georgia Southern (6-1), 7:30 p.m. ESPNU
The Mountaineers nearly knocked off then-No. 10 Penn State in Happy Valley in the season opener, falling 45-38. Last week, they finally struggled against someone else, beating Louisiana-Lafayette, 27-17. Between those games, ASU rocked Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, South Alabama, and Arkansas State by an average of 51-8. The Eagles aren't slouches, but they have not quite dominated foes the same way, and didn't come close to winning at Clemson, losing 38-7. ASU has easily won three of four in this series since these schools became Sun Belt foes. GSU won the 2014 meeting, 34-14.
Appalachian State 31, Georgia Southern 21
Georgia Tech (3-4) at Virginia Tech (4-2),
7:30 p.m. ESPN
Hokies coach Justin Fuente has yet to beat the Yellow Jackets, losing in Blacksburg two seasons ago, 30-20, and last year in Atlanta, 28-22. Georgia Tech went 5-6 last season and beat the higher-ranked Hokies. The Jackets are struggling again in the ACC this year at 1-3, but I don't think they'll scrape together a third straight win over Virginia Tech, which has had a bye week to get ready for the triple-option offense. Georgia Tech put up 66 points against Louisville, but only 14 against Duke two weeks ago. It could be close, but I think Virginia Tech will pull it out.
Virginia Tech 27, Georgia Tech 23
Friday
Miami (5-2) at Boston College (5-2), 7 p.m. ESPN
Miami 31, Boston College 28
