Virginia gets 2020 commitment from big-time point guard

My most recent post was about my thoughts and feelings for the 2019-20 season, but it's OK to look further down the line as well. UVa secured a pledge from 2020 four-star point guard Reece Beekman on Thursday before he participated in the second day of the NBA Top 100 Camp at John Paul Jones Arena.

Reece Beekman is a highly sought-after
point guard from Louisiana.
Beekman, a 6-foot-2 160-pounder from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is ranked No. 1 in the state, among the top 10 point guards in the nation, and in the top 75 overall. He's helped lead his school, Scotlandsville, to three consecutive state crowns and scored 28 points in this past season's final. He was also considering LSU, TCU, Alabama, Iowa State, Houston, Cal, and South Carolina before choosing to come to Charlottesville. Beekman told The Daily Progress that watching Virginia guards Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome win the national championship inspired him and that he could see himself making plays like they did in leading the Cavaliers to their first title.

Beekman gives Tony Bennett two recruits in the 2020 class. In September, shooting guard Carson McCorkle of Raleigh committed to the 'Hoos as a member of the 2021 class, and then in March, he reclassified to 2020. Virginia fans are hoping their arrival ushers in more great accomplishments for the program, just like the arrival of guard tandem Guy and Jerome, who arrived together in 2016.
