We are now in August. The first college football game is in a few weeks and the first for UVa, at Pittsburgh, is at the end of the month. But first, a little hoops.
In case you missed it, Virginia released its nonconference schedule for the 2019-20 season July 17. We already knew some of the opponents, but now we know every non-ACC foe. Some UVa fans have said the slate looks pretty weak, but keep in mind, the conference is going to a 20-game schedule this coming season, so the Wahoos will definitely get a strength-of-schedule bump from those two extra ACC games.
Also, don't forget that Virginia opens the season Nov. 6 at Syracuse on the new ACC Network. After
that, the opponents are as follows:
Sunday, Nov. 10 vs. James Madison
Saturday, Nov. 16 vs. Columbia
Tuesday, Nov. 19 vs. Vermont
Saturday, Nov. 23 vs. Massachusetts in Uncasville, Ct.
Sunday, Nov. 24 vs. St. John's or Arizona State in Uncasville, Ct.
Wednesday, Nov. 27 vs. Maine
Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Purdue
Wednesday, Dec. 18 vs. Stony Brook
Sunday, Dec. 22 vs. South Carolina
Sunday, Dec. 29 vs. Navy
The game at Purdue is by far the most interesting on this schedule, given what happened in March. Otherwise, I agree, not much else to get excited about here. But the perceived softness can help the new-look, young Cavaliers find their footing.
Next, I'll turn my attention to football. My annual ACC team previews are around the corner, so look for a Syracuse-Boston College post soon!
