I interrupt my top 10 UVa basketball game series with this special bulletin: Virginia has landed a four-star offensive tackle for the Class of 2021.
On Friday morning, the Cavaliers received a verbal pledge from Logan Taylor, a 6-foot-8 290-pounder out of Episcopal High School in Alexandria. He is rated the 240th-best recruit in his class nationally by 247Sports and No. 8 in the state of Virginia. He is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals. Taylor is the highest-ranked recruit in Virginia's 2021 class thus far. Linebacker Josh McCarron is also rated four stars by 247Sports, but his composite ranking is a little lower than Taylor's.
Taylor, a native of Canada, boasts an impressive offer list, with Florida and North Carolina being UVa's primary competition. Taylor also held offers from Arizona, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, N.C. State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech, among others.
Paired with another four-star offensive tackle pledge, Andrew Gentry, who committed in December, hopefully the Wahoos can have solid bookends on the line for years to come. Gentry is technically a part of the incoming 2020 class, but he is going on a Mormon mission for the next two years.
The Taylor commitment was part of a fun two days for Virginia football fans.
On Thursday, graduate tight end transfer Tony Poljan said he'd finish his career in Charlottesville after starting it at Central Michigan. The 6-7 258-pounder will be a big target in the passing game. UVa was lacking in the tight end department, entering the fall with just sophomore Grant Misch, who caught one pass last season, and true freshman Joshua Rawlings.
Poljan immediately infuses a pass-catching threat into the offense, and NFL scouts have been paying attention to him. Last season for the Chippewas, Poljan recorded 33 receptions for 496 yards and four touchdowns and was named to the all-MAC second team.
