UVa picks up commitment from four-star wideout Dakota Twitty

Virginia landed its first four-star commitment in the Class of 2022 on Wednesday, as wide receiver Dakota “Dak” Twitty of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (fitting, eh?) in Mooresboro, N.C., gave his verbal pledge to the Cavaliers over other finalists Georgia Tech, N.C. State, and Yale. He also held offers from Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia.
Twitty fits the mold that coach Bronco Mendenhall likes in a wideout with a big frame at an impressive 6-foot-5, 215 pounds. Obviously, 6-foot-7 Lavel Davis Jr., who had a good true freshman season in 2020 but will likely miss all of 2021 with a torn ACL, is who first comes to mind when thinking of tall UVa wideouts. But Virginia receivers coach Marques Hagans has done a remarkable job of developing this position group, with several standouts blossoming over his tenure, including Hasise Dubois, Joe Reed, Terrell Jana, Olamide Zaccheaus, Doni Dowling, Canaan Severin, and others. Twitty said he has a great relationship with Hagans, and given the development of WRs at the school, it is not surprising that Virginia landed a touted wideout.

Twitty is a well-regarded prospect. ESPN and 247Sports rank him as a four-star player, and ESPN puts him at No. 216 overall in the Class of 2022. The 247Sports composite lists him as the No. 40 receiver in the class. Rivals tabs him as a three-star player and the No. 13 prospect in North Carolina for 2022.

Steady consistency has marked Twitty’s first three seasons of high school football, as he has recorded between 34 and 39 receptions each year. Thus far, Twitty has accumulated 108 catches for 1,507 yards and 25 touchdowns in 32 games.

As expected, Twitty has said he can go up and get jump balls on the outside, but he said he also likes to run routes from the slot. With an offer from Yale, it’s no secret he’s smart, and he has the 4.3 GPA to prove it. It seems like the Wahoos are getting the total package with Twitty.

Twitty is UVa’s fifth commitment in the Class of 2022. You can check out video of Twitty's commitment announcement below (and yep, the picture does turn right side up after a couple of minutes):
On a side note, as a Dallas Cowboys fan, the fact that Virginia is also getting a Dak makes me very excited.

In other UVa football news, no Cavaliers were selected in last month's NFL draft. But LB Charles Snowden (Bears), TE Tony Poljan (Ravens), and S D'Angelo Amos (Lions) were quickly snapped up as free agents. LB Zane Zandier was recently in a rookie camp for the Eagles, and RB Shane Simpson was also reportedly drawing interest from teams, but as far as I know, those two haven't signed any contracts. Also, Jana was taken No. 17 overall in the Canadian Football League draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
