Last Friday, the Virginia basketball team picked up a commitment for the Class of 2022 in four-star small forward Leon Bond out of Milwaukee. Bond used a picture of himself with Tony Bennett and Tony's dad Dick to make the announcement. The Bennetts, of course, hail from Wisconsin. Alongside West Virginia guard Isaac McKneely, Bond is the second pledge in Virginia's 2022 class.

Bond stands 6-foot-5, 180 pounds, and is a fast-rising four-star prospect. Bond chose the Cavaliers over Cincinnati and hometown school Marquette, which pushed hard for him with new coach Shaka Smart. He also held notable offers from Virginia Tech and Texas A&M. 247Sports has him listed as its No. 42 recruit for his class, No. 1 in Wisconsin, and No. 11 among the nation's small forwards. Before the spring, 247 had him below the top 100, meaning he had an excellent spring season when coaches could go watch him and begin to extend offers. Tony Bennett extended his offer July 12 after Bond visited UVa for an unofficial visit in June.
According to Hoos Place hoops recruiting guru StLouHoo, Bond is a player that likes to play downhill with physicality. He wants to attack the rim, hit pull-up jumpers, and also get out in transition. His 3-point shooting is a work in progress. He's a solid rebounder, and it looks like he will be able to guard a number of positions on the defensive end. He's got good size already with room to fill out. StLouHoo compared him to someone like a more polished but less explosive Justin Anderson.
For the Class of 2022, the 'Hoos have locked down pledges from a guard and a forward. They are likely targeting a big man with at least one more offer for the class. The main guy UVa seems to want is 6-foot-9 four-star Isaac Traudt of Nebraska. Virginia is in a good position with Traudt, but so is Nebraska, North Carolina, and Michigan State. Many other schools have also offered Traudt. UVa had him in Charlottesville for an official visit in June with McKneely, and the two have seemed to hit it off as friends. The #IsaacSquared hashtag has become a thing as Wahoos fans hope for both Isaacs to end up at Virginia. We will just have to wait and see for now.
