Doug Doughty of The Roanoke Times reported Thursday that Virginia cornerback Darrius Bratton hurt his knee at practice Wednesday and could be done for the season, according to a source.
Bratton, a junior, was slated to start this season at the corner spot opposite All-American Bryce Hall. Bratton has yet to redshirt, so if he misses the whole season, he can come back in 2020 as a redshirt junior and have
two years of eligibility remaining.
Bratton competed with Tim Harris in 2018 for playing time, starting five games and appearing in all of them. He made 16 tackles and seven breakups. Harris was drafted in the sixth round by the 49ers.
It is definitely a blow for the Cavaliers, but the secondary is perhaps the best position group on the team. Among some possible replacements for Bratton are junior Nick Grant and sophomores Germane Crowell (son of the former UVa receiver) and Heskin Smith.
Sorry to hear that #UVa defensive back Darrius Bratton from Roanoke suffered knee injury Wednesday and is likely lost for the season. Good kid. Hasn't been redshirted so has two years remaining.— Douglas Doughty (@DoughtySports) August 15, 2019
