Sunday NFL picks

Some crazy games in college over the holiday weekend and Dallas' game with New Orleans on Thanksgiving was a great football game, even if I didn't get the result I wanted. Now, NFL Sunday gets into gear.

1:00
Green Bay at Atlanta
In this matchup of two teams vying for playoff seeding, the level of competition should be high. The Falcons rarely lose at home over the past couple years and haven't so far this year. I like Atlanta and the way their ground game complements their passing game--a little more so than the more one-dimensional Packers. Atlanta wins 23-17.

Jacksonville at N.Y. Giants
The Giants have gotten off track the past couple weeks after winning five consecutive games. Revived Dallas surprised them two weeks ago and then last week, they lost to Michael Vick and the Eagles. New York had its chances though to win in that game. Jacksonville was left for dead after a 30-3 home loss on MNF to the Titans a few weeks ago but have clawed back and now sit at 6-4 and very much in the playoff hunt. I like the Giants to pick up a hard-fought victory, 28-20.

Minnesota at Washington
Tough to tell what will happen in this contest. You can be sure though if the Redskins win, it'll be by a close margin--Washington has won its five games by a combined 20 points so far this year. Will the Vikings play like we think they're capable of after getting a new head coach this week, Leslie Frazier? I think they will and it'll be just enough in a tight one as Minnesota edges the battered and bruised Skins 27-24.

Tennessee at Houston
The Tennessee offense has looked its worst after acquiring Randy Moss from the Vikings three weeks ago. Rusty Smith is now the QB after Vince Young both injured his thumb and threw a tantrum. Kerry Collins is also hurt so the rookie Smith gets the call. Houston is at home and desperate for a win. I think the Texans win it, 31-24.

4:15
Philadelphia at Chicago
Michael Vick has won every game he has started and finished so far this year and I'm not going to pick against him yet, though this is a very tough test, on the road against a very tough Bears D. Philly wins 21-17.

Tampa Bay at Baltimore
The surprising Bucs still have not won a game against a team with a winning record, and I think that trend will continue. Ravens running back Ray Rice should have a good day against a weak Bucs rush D. Gritty Tampa keeps it close though. 28-21.

8:20
San Diego at Indianapolis
The hot Bolts travel to take on the Colts. San Diego has done it again, starting the year off slowly but eventually transforming itself into a formidible opponent. The Chargers have won three in a row, but two of them were at home and all were against middling teams (Tennessee, Houston, Denver). The Colts will be looking to get the Pats game of out of their heads and they'll win at home, 31-27.

Monday night
San Francisco at Arizona
Two disappointing teams will likely put on a fairly entertaining show, as both struggle to gain control. Arizona has played prettty good at home this year, and I like it to win this NFC West contest 23-20.
