Taquan Mizzell, a five-star running back out of Virginia Beach's Bayside High School, committed to Virginia this afternoon. Mizzell, who stands 5-foot-10, 183 pounds, had his final three schools narrowed down to UVa, North Carolina, and West Virginia. He also held offers from at least a dozen other schools, including Virginia Tech, Miami, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, and UCLA. Mizzell is from the same school that produced UVa sophomore cornerback Demetrious Nicholson. Mizzell is the first five-star commitment for UVa since offensive lineman Eugene Monroe in 2004.
Daily Progress beat writer Andrew Ramspacher tweeted that Mizzell had this thing to say, very interesting:
Smoke on 757 together: We want to make this (UVa) like the Univ. of Fla where all the good players in the state go to the same school.

  1. SMOOOOOOOOOKE!

I watched a few highlight vids of him on YouTube and I'm really stoked about signing him. Crazy speed and cutting skills. Imagine if both he and Philip Sims pan out, we could have two freakish athletes at skill positions. Could really help both our record and recruiting. I hope he's right, and more guys follow him to UVA.

  2. That would be awesome. Just what we might need to start to make actual strides against Tech (gotta score more than seven points against them first though, ugh).
