NFL picks

Season: 19-20; last week: 3-5

Eagles (5-2) at Texans (4-4), 1 p.m. FOX
Should be a close game in Houston, but don't think I trust the Texans to be a team like Philly. The Eagles' running attack is going to be too good for the Texans to stop.
Eagles 26, Texans 23

Chargers (5-3) at Dolphins (4-3), 1 p.m. CBS
An all-of-sudden interesting game its San Diego, now on a two-game losing streak (Chiefs and Broncos) against Miami, which has won two straight over the Bears and Jaguars, but was close to a third win in a row but just lost at the end of the game against Green Bay. I like the Dolphins to play well at home.
Dolphins 27, Chargers 24

Redskins (3-5) at Vikings (3-5), 1 p.m. FOX
Washington decided not to listen to me and is starting Robert Griffin III at QB. Why not give him extra time to rest up and get practice reps and bring him back in Week 11 after the Redskins get a bye next week? I can't trust Griffin in this game. I like Minnesota.
Vikings 19, Redskins 16

Broncos (6-1) at Patriots (6-2), 4:25 p.m. CBS
Denver has been mauling people since losing at Seattle in OT, beating the Cardinals, Jets, 49ers, and Chargers all by at least 14 points. New England has turned it on after getting mauled by the Chiefs a few weeks ago. The Patriots have not been beaten as impressive teams, however: Bengals, Bills, Jets, Bears. I like Denver, but it will be a close game. Denver beat New England in Denver last year in the playoffs but the Patriots won in OT during the regular season.
Broncos 31, Patriots 28

Ravens (5-3) at Steelers (5-3), 8:30 p.m. NBC
Baltimore beat Pittsburgh, 26-6, in Baltimore on Sept. 11. I expect this game to be a lot different. The Steelers have come to life after picking up key turnovers in the second quarter against the Texans two weeks ago. Since then, they've been on fire and they scored 51 points last week vs. the Colts. This game between the two rivals should look more normal -- a three-point or less nailbiter.
Steelers 20, Ravens 17

Colts (5-3) at Giants (3-4), 8:30 p.m. Monday night ESPN
The Giants' three-game winning streak might have been fool's gold, as it came against the likes of the Redskins, Texans, and Falcons. Since then, the Giants have been outscored 58-21 vs. the Cowboys and Eagles. I don't think New York is capable of beating a quality team yet and I expect Indy to bounce back after last week's loss to the Steelers.
Colts 24, Giants 17

Cardinals (6-1) at Cowboys (6-2), 1 p.m. FOX
It was revealed Saturday that Cowboys QB Tony Romo has two fractures in a bone in his back but he still might play Sunday vs. the Cardinals. Honestly, I'd rather he sit and try to get healthy. Brandon Weeden looked good in spot duty vs. the Redskins last Monday night. Dallas is going to try to establish the run like usual either way with DeMarco Murray, so it might not matter. The Cardinals have a very good run defense, though, and the leagues 32nd-ranked pass defense. Perhaps Romo could better take advantage of Arizona's shoddy pass defense. The problem is, the Cardinals blitz a
lot and are probably licking their chops after watching the Redskins' blitz decimate the Cowboys OL and Romo on Monday. If Romo were healthy, I could see him picking apart the blitz with nice crisp and quick throws but he hasn't practiced all week, which makes me wonder if he would be able to perform the game plan. That is one of the reasons why I want Weeden to get a shot. Either way, I don't feel particularly good about this game. The Cardinals are one of those teams that has just seems to have the Cowboys' number in recent seasons.
Cardinals 21, Cowboys 17
