Francisco Caffaro, a 7-foot, 216-pound center from Argentina, made a pledge to UVa on Tuesday
over offers from Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Saint Mary's, Oregon, SMU, and Nebraska. He graduated from the NBA Global Academy and was playing for a team in Australia. The NBA Global Academy has other clubs in China, India, Mexico, and Senegal.
Caffaro is likely a redshirt candidate so he can gain weight, but he's known as a physical and energetic big man, and he's played for Argentina four times in FIBA (International Basketball Federation) competition. Plus, Jack Salt, Mamadi Diakite, Jay Huff, and Francesco Badocchi would all likely be ahead of him in the rotation. As a refresher, the other new players on Grounds this fall are 5-9 point guard Kihei Clark from California and 6-6 guard Kody Stattman from Australia.
