ACC bowl picks (part 2)

Record through conference championship weekend: 75-31 Bowl record so far: 2-1

Today
New Era Pinstripe Bowl in New York
No. 23 Pittsburgh (8-4) vs. Northwestern (6-6), 2 p.m. ESPN
The ACC is 3-0 so far in bowls as Wake Forest stunned Temple, N.C. State crushed Vanderbilt, and Boston College held off Maryland. Today, two more ACC teams look to keep the conference undefeated in the postseason. The Panthers have won three in a row, and the offense is hot, having scored 76, 56, and 43 points in those games. They haven't scored below 28 points all season. Pitt also owns wins over Clemson and Penn State and was just a couple plays away from being a 10-win team. The Wildcats are 24th in the nation in scoring defense, but I don't expect them to be able to quite keep up with the Panthers. Pitt's defense hasn't been anything special, but I don't think Northwestern's offense will be able to take full advantage.
Pittsburgh 34, Northwestern 27

Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando
No. 16 West Virginia (10-2) vs. Miami (8-4), 5:30 p.m. ESPN
The Hurricanes have won four games in a row after losing four in a row in the middle of the season and winning four consecutive to start the season. The Mountaineers have 10 victories, but several close wins -- four wins by four points or fewer. Their best win was probably at home over BYU by three. Miami's best win would probably be home vs. Pitt or at Georgia Tech. It lost two games by three points or fewer and one more by a touchdown, so they weren't that far from being a 10-win team as well. In my bowl pick'em contest, I went with WVU, but I'm actually going to go with Miami on the blog. I think this game could go either way, and despite the Hurricanes having two fewer wins, they are playing well, and WVU didn't put up good performances in its two biggest games -- 37-20 loss to Oklahoma State and 56-28 setback against Oklahoma.
Miami 30, West Virginia 27
